When the Sun heats water in rivers, lakes, and oceans, it evaporates and changes from a liquid to a gas. Once the gaseous water, or water vapor, reaches the upper atmosphere, it cools and can fall back down to Earth as precipitation. In which state or states of matter can precipitation exist?

    The condensation stage is when precipitation exists.
