The task was developed by George Murdock, born in Conneticut, who studied at Yale. He travels around the world. In 1954, Murdock published a list of all known cultures of his trip, in his work "Outline of World Cultures" and for 1957 published in "World Ethnographic Sample" the analysis of approximately 565 cultures coded for 30 variables.

It is worth noting that Margaret Mead was an anthropologist who worked on issues related to cultural anthropology, but did not compile a list of more than 65 different cultures.
