    1) Both portrayals demonstrate an unequal appreciation of cultures that border the United States. One Way Mirror describes the fact that Canadians are very interested in what happens in the United States, but Americans are ignorant to it. The Glare of the Truth shows that Americans are oblivious of the great inequality and other culture that occupies the world to the south and the border region.

    2) Both portrayals describe positive elements of US culture, and the fascination and enticing nature of the United States.

    3) Both essays describe the positive qualities of their respective countries, implying that the United States is not in fact the center of the world. One Way Mirror celebrates the fact that Canadians are kind, clean, and knowledgeable about the rest of the world, and Glare of the Truth describes the magic of Spanish and wonderful elements of Mexican culture.
