In the Caribbean, the political systems of countries range from representative democracies to communist and super-presidential regimes (Cuba, Venezuela). Ethno-racial, linguistic, and cultural diversity is great: at least 50 ethnic groups and 4 languages enjoying official status (English, Spanish, French, Dutch), which gives rise to many "cross" identifications.

The United States and Cuba are negotiating renewed commercial and diplomatic ties, which demonstrates the US's desire not to abandon the region and limit space for new players such as China, India, and Russia. In general, global changes and the US strategy aimed at restoring its hegemony in the region and in the world have led to the division of Latin America into two main regions.
