How did slavery In the Southern Colonies differ from slavery in the Northern Colonies?

    "It was different because the southern colonies were the more unkind type, they would whip their slaves and sometimes even beat them in public."

    These aren't my words ... this was out of a Textbook from history class.

    Although, what I know is different. But yeah? it's from a textbook - not me : / = D
