Research evidence on the relationship between hypnosis and sleep states suggests that hypnosis and sleep are not the same. They suggest that when a person is hypnotized, that state is entirely different from and cannot be compared to sleep in any way. They are both mental states, but are not alike in any way. One can be hypnotized and still be alert, but this is different with sleep.
