How did the concept of mutually assured destruction influence the Cold War? It prohibited the US from developing missiles to deliver the bombs. It proved that there was no safe place to test nuclear weapons. It showed that the Soviets were unable to develop a nuclear weapon. It reminded people that a nuclear war would be devastating for everyone.

    At that time, experts predicted that if both united states and the soviet union was involved in an all out nuclear war, about one third of the world's territory would be damaged and millions of lives could've lost.

    both sides realize this horrific possibility which prevent them from actually conducted the nuclear war.
