Answer: Having to wait in long lines for shelter units

Explanation: A shelter is a place where displaced people go to sleep for free. An individual who is in an emergency situation and need a place to stay can make use of the shelter. The homeless elderly are more likely to sleep on the streets than in shelters because of waiting on a long line for shelter units. Waiting on the long line will discourage an elderly person, the individual will opt for the easy way out by sleeping on the street. The health conditions of these elderly people play a vital role in their decision to sleep on the street, poor nutrition is also a huge factor.

Poverty, less income for other necessities such as food, medicine and proper care makes these people to be vulnerable to homelessness

The poor see the shelter as an important survival mechanism. shelters provide the users safety and protection against unfavorable weather conditions.

As a result of the above listed reasons, the elderly are prone to sleep on the street than in shelters.
