When have gallup's predictions been the least accurate?

    They were the least accurate when there were viable third-party candidates running for office. In these cases, the number of voters willing to take a chance on the outlier candidate might change rapidly over the course of the electoral season, and cause polls to under - or over-estimate the support for the major party candidates.
