I believe the answer is: remain on the case and keep the location of the weapon confidential

According to the model rules, your duty as lawyer for your client is to deliver the legal result that would be the most beneficial for the client regarless whether they're right or wrong. In the scenario above, finding the murder weapon is technically dos not fall under your list of responsibilities.
