The following is the party-wise distribution of seats in the House of Representatives and in the Senate:

    House of Representatives:

The majority of seats in the Senate are occupied by the Democratic Party members. The number of seats they have is 232 whereas the Republican Party has 197 seats. An independent member occupies one seat whereas five seats in the House are vacant. The number of seats in the House of Representatives has increased with the increasing number of states over the last two centuries.

    United States Senate:

Out of the hundred Senate seats, 53 are occupied by the members of Republican Party whereas the Democratic Party has only 45 seats. The remaining two seats are occupied by independents. The Senate is also known as the Upper Chamber of the United States Congress as it is conventionally believed to be superior.
