The Sociological perspective makes humanity seem less in control of our lives because of the general categories into which we fall that shape our life experiences. These general categories work to "classify" people into a particular way of life or group. Society is viewed to have power on our options and actions. Therefore, a person would seem to have less control over their life because they are not allowed to think for themselves or to create their own self-identity - rather they are guided by society's expectations and determinations for their pathway in life. The sociological perspective give us more power over our lives when crisis or change occurs. It forces you to look at society as a whole instead of being an individual. By understanding the sociological perspective, we have the advantage of knowing how society and the people in society are structured. This allows us to understand strengths, weaknesses, expectations and expected actions for certain groups in a given circumstance. Using this understanding will give us power and/or advantages in certain circumstances and within certain groups because we understand the group dynamics.
