The three stages described by him, in his theory, which took from Piaget's own theories, and built up on them, but later on came out with something different, are: the preconventional stage, divided into the obedience and punishment sub-stage and self-interest, the conventional stage and the post-conventional stage, both also subdivided into sub-stages. However, the one stage that does not belong to adolescents, but rather to childhood, is the preconventional stage of moral development. It is the conventional stage that initiates during adolescence.
