    Answer and Explanation: Hester Prynne also had a profound internal conflict over her feelings for her daughter, Pearl.

    After speculation, it was expected that young Hester will emerge from the jail defeated or at least embarrassed, but this is not the woman we see. Hester Prynne appeared more lady - like, and people who expect her to look dull and obscured by a disastrous cloud, were amazed, to perceive how her beauty shone out, and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which she was enveloped.
