    c. Gender-schema theory

    Explanation:

    Gender-schema theory was created to addresses the problems of Kohlberg's theory, the Kohlberg's theory is of the opinion that sex typed behaviour emerges long before children reach an understanding of gender consistency.

    The Gender-schema theory says that children are already pre-programmed to organise information into schemas.

    Hence, Gender schemas is focused around the organised sets of beliefs about the sexes.

    The theory proposes that children can form schemas as soon as they have acquired basic gender identity, this happens as early as 2years of age.

    There are 3 stage in a Gender-schema theory, they includes;

    1st stage

    At this stage children will start to learn what type of things are associated with each sex.

    Example, Boys have short hair, girls wear dresses.

    2nd stage

    This is the stage where children srarts to connect gender items together and make inferences based on how their cultures view of sex-appropriate behaviour -

    Example. If someone has long hair she is likely to wear dresses, play with dolls etc.

    Here most of the Inferences are only made about one own sex, it usually happens at around 4-6 years old.

    3rd stage

    Here children begin to make these inferences with the opposite sex. It is mostly around 8years.
