American's liked manifest destiny because the United States was destined by God. They believed it could expand it's dominion and spread democracy and capitalism across the North American continent.

The concept of manifest destiny was to acquire all of the land undiscovered (unclaimed by the British throne) by man, during its pre-colonial days, which then was brought into colonial days, where the ideology transpired. However, the American and Canadian revolution brought this into a tornado of events. When America purchased Alaska from Russia, lower canada (Canada) were quite scared at the fact that this ideology might just come true. Upper canada (USA) (they are called these based on the direction of water flow of Niagara Falls water, I know it sounds stupid but it is what it is) continued until they had set up plans to try and purchase/acquire more since Lewis and Clarke. However, it did not work out, due to the fact that in historical and geological terms, land had been discovered and claimed, by either the births crown or the Americans. I think what Americans liked most about manifest destiny was the idea that they would become the largest nation in the world away from the British crown/law/rule. Then they would become the powerhouse of the world, which in a way, they kind of are. But then again, the rest of the words powers and politics offsets it all.
