    Desensitization and reciprocal inhibition.

    Explanation:

The two techniques that are being used by George's therapist are best described as desensitization and reciprocal inhibition. Systematic desensitization is based on classical conditioning. It is a counter conditioning. First George has to relax completely. Then he is gradually exposed to the elevator. Relax inhibits the response of anxiety near the elevator. He will finally be able to ride the elevator with no anxiety response.
