First, you need to at least have a high school diploma or bachelors degree you also need to complete the police academy that usually takes less than a month or two in most programs you also need some kind of work experience and of course study on crime scenes and continue on advancing your career like studying, Reading real crime books and studying famous serial killers or little known murderers or someone that has to do with crime so it will be easier to investigate crime scenes and how they are done (It's been documented that most muderers nowadays normally copycat other serial killers or muderers).
