Assuming: x is the amount of vinegar, and y is the amount of mineral oil

mineral oil that is 4 oz more than twice the amount of vinegar ⇒ y = 4 + 2x

a squirt bottle is 16 - oz = he amount of vinegar + the amount of mineral oil

16 = x + y = x + 4+2x = 3x + 4

⇔ 3x = 16-4 = 12

⇔ x = 4

⇒ y = 4 + 2x = 4 + 2x4 = 12
