    Experimental group

An experimental group is a group of participants on which an experiment is conducted to determine a causal relationship between two variables (the independent and dependent variable). For instance, if a researcher is conducting a study on the effect of sleep deprivation (independent variable) on academic performance (dependent variable), the experimental group will be deprived of sleep before their academic performance is recorded.
