The Netherlands it the country that has the tradition of filling children's clogs with candy and treats on December 5.

December 5 is a major celebration especially among children because it is the time when St. Nicholas or Sinterklaas visits them and puts candies and treats on the clogs they placed by the fireplace or windows.

The Dutch story shares the St. Nicholas travels from his home in Madrid, Spain to any city or town in the Netherlands on the second Saturday of November. He visits all over the Netherlands accompanied by his servants called Zwarte Piet, they are the ones who holds the naughty or nice list of children. His visits are evidenced by the treats left in the clogs. St. Nicholas' day is celebrated on the 6th of December, it is the day when he goes back to his home in Spain by riding a steamboat from the Netherlands.
