    The document which guaranteed religious freedom, trial by jury and election of officers by property owners in the New York colony was the Charter of Liberties and Privileges. This stated that the political organization of the colony, set up the election of officers, created twelve counties within the state and stated it would protect the rights of the individuals living in New York State.
