In order to exercise the standard veto, the President must write an official note to Congress stating his objections (B).

This document is called a presidential veto message.

It is the process by which the President sends the bill back to the chamber which originated the bill (the House of Representatives or the Senate), along with a list of his objections and the reasons why he disapproves of the measures. The U. S. Constitution then requires this chamber to reconsider the bill which has just been vetoed, but an override is sometimes possible if both chambers agree to it.
