I believe the answer is: cognitive development theory

Cognitive development theory believe that the development of personality and behaviour among individuals are strongly correlated to the conscious observation that made by the individuals. This theory could explain how male children obtain and learn 'male behaviour' by consciously learning it from other adult males or television, same thing could happen to the female children.
