The system of checks and balances was created to limit government's power so it wouldn't transform into a tyranny.

the system divided the government into a Legislative branch which had the duty to create the low, Executive branch which had the duty to carried out the law, and the judicial branch which had the duty to handle every violation and disputes regarding the law.
