    (D) Maximum amount that a consumer is willing to pay for the slice.

It can also refer to the additional utility/satisfaction that the consumer receives on usage/consumption of the additional good/service.

maximum amount that a consumer is willing to pay for the slice.

    Explanation:

The law of diminishing marginal benefit states that the more you consume some product or service, the less utility you will obtain from each successive unit, so the less you are willing to pay for each successive unit.

For example, it is hot outside and you have running around all day and are incredibly thirsty, so you decide to drink a glass of Coke. That first glass provides you with a huge benefit. Since you like Coke so much, you decide to have another glass, but this time you obtain some benefits since you were still thirty, but not as much as before with the first glass. While you get ready to leave, you decide to have another glass, but this time you are full and do not even enjoy the Coke.

When we translate this effect on the price of goods, we can assume that you would be willing to pay a relatively high price for the first glass of Coke since you were very thirsty. But once your need was almost satisfied, the second glass of Coke wouldn't be worth as much for you. If you had to put a price on the third glass, it would be very close to $0.
