When an item is returned, the first question that should be asked is the reason for the return, which will reveal if the product is defective and needs to be put to the side, or in able to be returned to the sales floor right away but returned for some other reason. Secondly, asking specifically if there is any defect with the product will allow the systematization of separating the good from the bad thus preventing the resale of a defective product that leads to another product return transaction. Third and last, request to see the purchase receipt as well as identification from the person who is receiving the refund. This ensures that invalid returns are caught before a refund is issued and money is lost. This also ensures that if later there is something that amounts to fraud occurs, - such as a customer inserting a completely different product in a box in order to intentionally collect a refund for a product that has not been returned - the information form the identification will allow you to identify the person responsible.
