    Exergy:

This is also called availability or available energy. Exergy can be defines as the useful work potential which can be obtained from given amount of energy.

The second law is also called qualitative law because it tells that how much useful work can be obtained from a certain amount of energy. It tells us the direction of flow of energy. On the other hand first law of thermodynamics is called quantitative law.

In practical applications all process are irreversible process that is why we always obtain certain less amount of out put from ideal process due to ir-reversibility. Due to ir-reversibility entropy will increase and lets to destroyed the energy.

Generally two type of exergy we are handling

    1) Exergy of closed system

    2) Exergy of open system
