This can cause an overlap of both empires as one seeks to control (imperialism) and the other seeks to support its own interests by excluding other foreign nationals (nationalism).

Imperialism was both standard and common worldwide throughout recorded history, the untimely examples dating from the mid-third millennium BC. Recently, it has been considered morally discreditable and prohibited by international law. Therefore, its definition is used in international propaganda to condemn and opponent's foreign strategy.

    In powerful countries, nationalism can lead to imperialism. If a country feels nationalistic, they might start to want to show that their country is better that the others. One way to prove this is by taking an empire.
