I am opposed to slavery and secession, but I can't fight against my own people or my state. Who am I?

    Robert E. Lee was not in favor of slavery, or of dividing the nation, but his home state of Virginia was one of the Southern states that voted to secede. Because of his loyalty to his home state and in an effort to protect his own property, he left the Union Army and joined the Confederate Army.
