Explanation:
This was the main factor that Columbus and the experts disagreed about. Columbus believed that Asia was much closer going west from Europe than the experts claimed. This is what encouraged him to travel this route, as he believed the trip to be possible. However, Columbus did not know that America existed, which made it impossible for him to reach Asia in this manner.
