It brought about political concept of Mandala throughout the region. This changed the political structure of the Khmer empire to be a polity defined by its center, as opposed to being restricted by its geographical boundaries. Khmer empire also spread the religions of Hinduism and Buddhism to the state, the latter being its majority religion. The widespread practice of Buddhism as well as many Buddhist temples were made throughout the empire prove that Indian influence in the matter of religion was extremely strong. The Great Buddhist Temple Complex of Angkor Wat not only shows the extent of India's religious influence over the region, but also shows the presence of Indian influence in other areas such as through India's literature and the philosophical ideas of Mandala.
