The bicameral house was a part of the Connecticut Compromise (also known as the Great Compromise).

The Connecticut Compromise allowed for the development of the legislative branch we know and use today. This compromise stated that Congress would be made up of two houses, the Senate and House of Representatives. The Senate would consist of two Senators from each state. The House of Representatives would have the number of representatives from each state based on a states population. States with larger populations would have more representation in this part of Congress.
