How are centuries counted? • Our calendar (the Gregorian calendar) starts at A. D 1 (the approximate year of Christ's birth). • Example - 1st century = A. D 1 to A. D 100 • Rule #1: Centuries start with the first year and stop at the next 100-year mark. • Rule #2: Take the numbers at the beginning and add one to find the number of the century.
