    Therefore the sum of both numbers is (x + 3) + (x + 4) = 2x + 7.

    Their difference is (x + 4) - (x + 3) = 1

    And subtracting their sum from x + 8 gives (x + 8) - (2x + 7) = x + 8 - 2x - 7 = - x + 1.
