What term is used to describe the hot ash, gases, and materials being erupted at speeds of up to 400 mph?

    The word 'magma' is used to refer to the hot ash, gases and material expelled by a volcano during an eruption. To be more precise, when all these materials reach the ground, the word 'lava' is also used.
