Big commercial airplanes are sometimes pushed to an area by a tractor. A 1800-kg tractor exerts a force of 1.75x 104 N backward on the pavement, and the system experiences forces resisting motion that total 2400 N. Calculate the force exerted by the tractor on the airplane, assuming 2200 N of the friction is experienced by the airplane and the acceleration is 0.15 m/s2.

    Total pulling force being created = 1.75 x 10⁴

    = 17500 N.

    2400 and 2200 are resisting force so net force applicable

    = 17500 - 2400 - 2200

    = 12900 N.

    This force will pull both tractor and airplane

    12900 = 1800 x. 15 + F where F is force created on airplane to pull it

    F = 12630 N.

    This is the force created on airplane.
