    m = mass of the softball thrown = 0.2 kg

    v = speed of the softball thrown = 40 m/sec

    K = kinetic energy of the softball thrown = ?

    Kinetic energy of an object is given as

    K = (0.5) m v²

    where m = mass of object, v = speed of object

    hence for softball thrown, kinetic energy is given as

    K = (0.5) m v²

    inserting the values

    K = (0.5) (0.2) (40) ²

    K = 160 J

    hence kinetic energy of the softball comes out to be 160 J
