Between 58 and 51 he fought the Gallic Wars, invaded Britain (55-54), and acquired immense power. After civil war with Pompey, which ended in Pompey's defeat at Pharsalus (48), Caesar became dictator of the Roman Empire.

Julius Caesar was a Roman statesman, general, dictator and consul of the Roman Republic, who played a major role in the transition of Rome from a republic to an Empire. Among his many actions was also the first invasion of Britain.
