    Nutria are large rodent that inhabit wetlands. They are native to South America but were introduced to the United States at the beginning of the twentieth century and are seen as rather a pest as they are overpopulated due to having no natural predators and they consume a lot of the wetlands. They are also primarily nocturnal (active at night), with peak activity occurring near midnight. They rest and groom during the day and feed at night. Therefore the best time to study them would be in the wetlands at night.
